Ok-- the change in MOJOprofessor is on hold. Need some feedback

OK, not everybody likes me rolling this over to Twitter. For example, Just Some Dude suggests rolling over to Facebook:

"why not make a facebook account for the class?? students in class can add as friends and im pretty sure 99% of us have facebook. not too sure about twitter, i personally dont want to fall for that trap."

I'm open to the idea, especially since I could just mash a twitter stream into a FB page. What do other people think?

Here's one problem, though, as well. I already have a facebook, and-- as far as I understand the Facebook TOS-- you have to use your real name for an account. So how could I set up a page for the MOJOprof stuff without giving up the account I already use?

Overall, what are people's thoughts on this, or on anything related to making classes more interactive by using the good tools out there?

Nobody would have to sign up for a twitter account, of course, if i did move there. It's a public stream that you can just check in on. But if people wanted to send replies or get SMS/TXT notifications, they would need to. But, they can reply just as easy to things by email without needing to sign up.

Yeah, but since it's against the TOS they can take it down anytime, and they do so! Imagine all the class work getting pulled right before a paper is due?!

And I'm sure I'll piss off somebody enough that they'd turn me in to see the page get shut down.

Is part of ur worry eased by not having to get a twitter account? Or is just painful to have to check some other place on the web in general?

twitter is lame. just do not do it. this blog thing is way better. email is the teaching method, not text message

I'm not sure I entirely understand u, Oatclusters? email? text message?

Twitter can be texted, of course, but it's just a web site too as its mostly used? and this isnt email certainly?

I'm a lil' worried about ur LJ account too. It has some signs of being a quick setup and not a real one. Are you really in the class? I'm sorry if I'm being an unfair "doubting Thomas," but this is the internet after all. :)

What if you create a facebook group titled "MojoProfessor." Your real name would still be listed in the admins for the group, but if you add the entire class, you could use the group page to post threads, and there would be a 'group wall' which the entire class could post whatever's on their minds....

I tried to do a FB group, Alex, but it couldnt do some of the stuff i wanted it to. Unfortunately, the "FB page" i setup isnt doing so either right now!
